Enhancing Industrial Efficiency: Introducing Emerson’s Rosemount 802 Wireless I/O Transmitter
Emerson has introduced the Rosemount 802 wireless multi-channel I/O transmitter, expanding the company’s WirelessHART-enabled device catalog. This new 8-channel transmitter is designed to enhance the monitoring and control of industrial processes, improving safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. The Rosemount 802 enables the remote control of equipment like motors, pumps, and valves, eliminating the need for manual intervention in hazardous areas.

Enhanced Capabilities and Applications
The Rosemount 802 builds upon its predecessor, the Rosemount 702, by offering four times the input/output (I/O) channels. With eight configurable channels, the 802 is particularly useful in complex industrial environments, such as chemical plants, where multiple processes need to be monitored and controlled simultaneously. This significantly improves operational efficiency, as operators can control valves and equipment from a control room, reducing downtime and optimizing process flow.

For instance, in a chemical processing plant, operators no longer need to manually adjust valves on-site. Using the Rosemount 802 transmitter, they can send commands wirelessly through a control system, thereby reducing risks in high-temperature or toxic environments. The transmitter improves safety by allowing operators to avoid exposure to hazardous conditions while enhancing precision in process management.
Safety Certifications and Robust Design
The Rosemount 802 complies with multiple global safety standards, including:
- ATEX Zone 2 Intrinsically Safe
- USA Division 2 Non-Incendive
- Canada Division 2 Non-Incendive
- IECEx Zone 2 Intrinsically Safe
Additionally, its enclosure is built to meet NEMA 4X and IP66 standards, ensuring durability and resistance to harsh environmental conditions.
WirelessHART Advantage
One of the standout features of the Rosemount 802 is its WirelessHART functionality. This wireless communication protocol forms a mesh network, which provides reliable data transmission by rerouting signals through other devices if a direct path is obstructed. The WirelessHART compatibility allows seamless integration with existing HART devices, enhancing scalability and flexibility in industrial settings. Moreover, the network’s encryption and authentication features ensure data security.
